How to restore contact pictures to your windows phone

If you’ve set up the Outlook Hotmail Connector to sync your contact and appointment data to your Windows Live account, and then sync this information to your windows phone, you’ve probably noticed that pictures that were included with your Outlook contacts did not sync to Windows Live.

Windows Live accommodates photos with contacts, but the only contacts you'll see in your Windows Live Contacts that have photos are your Live Messenger contacts who have also posted a picture of themselves to their Windows Live account.

You'll need to manually restore the photographs to your contacts on the phone.

The easiest way to restore your contact pictures to your windows phone is to upload the pictures to your Windows Live account and then sync the pictures over to your phone.

Upload the Pictures to your Windows Live Account

Gather together all your contact photos and place them in a folder on your computer
Then, using Internet Explorer, login to your Windows Live account > go to Photos > Select the Mobile photos album > Create folder > input "Contact Photos" in the space provided (or whatever you prefer to call the album) > Next
Open up File Explorer in a new window on your computer, navigate to your contacts folder and select all the contacts.
Drag all of the pictures to the "Drop photos here or select photos form your computer" box in Windows Live (the drag option will only work if you are using Internet Explorer)

Sync the Pictures to your Phone

On your phone, open up the Pictures hub > tap all > now you'll see a "Contact pictures from Windows Live" album. Open up the Contact pictures album and tap each picture to download it from your Windows Live account, then tap the three periods in the lower right hand corner of the screen and tap "Save to Phone"
Go to the people hub
Select a contact that you want to add a picture to and tap the pencil icon
Tap "add photo" and then select the picture from your Saved Pictures.

When you sync your phone to Windows Live, the pictures will also sync to Windows Live. You won’t see the pictures there, but if you get another phone and sync to your Windows Live account, the pictures will be synced over to your new windows phone.

Viewing YouTube on a Windows Mobile Phone

The easiest way to watch YouTube on a WM5.0 or WM6.x device is to input m.youtube.com into the Windows Mobile Standard or Professional phone’s mobile browser.

Then click the Link, “Download the YouTube application,” to download and install a YouTube client to your phone.

If you have a Windows Mobile Classic device that runs WM5.0 or WM6.1 (the classic devices are not phones), you can download the software directly to your device by entering this link address into your device’s mobile browser.

After you’ve installed the YouTube application, select/tap Start > Programs > YouTube

I’ve installed the YouTube application to two WM5.0 devices (IPAQ rx1950 & IPAQ hw6925) as well as to my WM6.1 Standard phone (IPAQ Voice Messenger) and my WM6.5 Professional phone (HP IPAQ Glisten).

Agenda One is a great addition to any Windows Mobile Phone

Agenda One is one of the first applications I install to my Windows phones.

I like its quickness, its simplified user interface, and its ease of use.

I've used Agenda One on WM 5.0 & WM6.x professional and standard phones. It is especially useful on my “candy bar” phones like the HP Ipaq hw6925, the HP Ipaq 910c Business Messenger, the HP Ipaq Voice Messenger, and the HP Ipaq Glisten, because the software is optimized to work “one handed” with the phones' keypads.

Unthreaded versus threaded text messaging...what is your preference?

You lose details, like time, with threaded (conservation) view (see 2nd screenshot). I prefer unthreaded view (see 1st screenshot).

Tracking my movements on my HP Ipaq Voice Messenger, GPS, and Trackr

Use Trackr to document your travels, runs, bicycle rides, motorcycle rides, etc. Trackr uses the GPS radio in your windows mobile device to track you. If you want your friends to track you in (practically) real time mode, you can use your phone's data connection to capture your movements and place them on a private, personal web page.

I use Trackr on my windows mobile professional and standard phones. (these screenshots are taken from the IPAQ Voice Messenger , which runs WM6.1 standard).

Google maps with GPS enabled on the HP Ipaq Voice Messenger

Open up Google on the Voice Messenger. Select Menu > Options and choose GPS Settings. Place a checkmark in the box next to "Manage by Windows (see first & second screenshots)

Then select Menu > Use GPS

Place the Voice Messenger in a window with a clear view of the sky and after a few minutes, the phone will start fixing on GPS satellites. Once it finds your location, you'll notice the blue circle on your location on the map (see third & fourth screenshots).

My Mobiler is a "must have" application for every windows mobile device

I love My Mobiler and use it with all my windows mobile devices. My Mobiler is software that you install to and run from a computer. The software works in conjunction with an ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center connection and allows you to view a Windows Mobile device screen on the computer screen and you can use the computer’s mouse and keyboard to navigate through the Windows Mobile device’s screens and to input data into it.

My Mobiler also allows you to create screenshots of the windows mobile device (an option I use frequently when I write articles for my blogs).

To use My Mobiler:

· Download and install My Mobiler to your computer

· Connect your windows mobile device to your computer and get ActiveSync or WMDC running on the computer.

· My Mobiler will open up and install a client to your windows mobile device (check the windows mobile screen for any messages)

You'll see a small icon in your computer's tray. Right click on the My Mobiler icon and select "Open Mobiler" to view the screen of your windows mobile screen on your computer (at this stage you can navigate the menus, open up applications, input data into the windows mobile device using your computer's keyboard and mouse).

To take screenshots of a mobile device, you can:

· Select the icon on the top of the My Mobiler window (see the 6^th icon from the left on the 1^st screenshot); or

· Press Ctrl+F to save a screenshot to a file; or

· Select Edit > Save Screen to File

I'm listening to Sirius internet radio on my HP IPAQ Voice Messenger now!

I just installed the smartphone version of SXRadio to my HP IPAQ Voice Messenger, along with .NET Compact Framework 3.5, and now I'm enjoying my Sirius internet radio subscription on the Voice Messenger. Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful!

If you’ve got a WM6.5 phone, you won’t need to install .NET Compact Framework 3.5, but if you need the cab file, you can download an .NET Compact Framework 3.5 CAB file directly to your windows phone here.

Verifying & Configuring MMS Settings on the HP Voice Messenger

1. To verify your HP Voice Messenger’s text message settings, select Start > Settings > Connections > GPRS

2. Since AT&T is my wireless carrier, I see “4 AT&T MMS” in the list, but what you see here may be different based on who your carrier is. If there is no MMS option here, you may need to select “New” and set up the MMS settings for your wireless carrier.

3. You could also use the HP IPAQ DataConnect application to see if it will configure the Voice Messenger to handle SMS and MMS messaging properly: Select Start > Applications > Accessories > HP IPAQ DataConnect

Here's some screenshots of Navigon's Mobile Navigator 7 North American version for Windows Mobile that are taken from the HP IPAQ Glisten.

4. Map: Shows 2 dimensional navigational map

5. Map: Shows 3 dimensional navigational map (I like this one better)

6. Turn by turn instructions

The North American version of Mobile Navigator 7 for Windows Mobile has only recently become available. The software can be installed on WM5.0 and WM6.x GPS enabled devices and can be purchased at Pocket Gear or Smartphone.net, and includes maps for the United States, Canada and the US Virgin Islands.

I’ve got it installed on my HP IPAQ Glisten, which runs WM6.5. I haven’t had a chance to try it out much, but I expect to use the software some next week.

Just installed Stream_ON, a desktop player for Sirius Internet Radio

Stream_ON is easy to use, and I think I'll listen to Sirius Internet Radio more now that I don't have to open a browser whenever I want to listen to it.

I'm also using TrayIt so I can minimize the application to my System Tray.
